Refunds and returns

A customer brings something back. How to refund, and how the consignor's balance stays right.

Updated October 20, 2026

When a customer brings something back, you do a refund. The original sale and its receipt stay as they are. The refund counts as a separate, negative sale on the day you refund.

How to refund

  1. Look up the receipt under Sales receipts. The receipt number is on the customer's receipt.
  2. Click Refund.
  3. Check what the customer is bringing back. For several of the same item, choose how many.
  4. Choose what happens to the item: Back on sale or Back to the consignor.
  5. Choose how you give the money back: Cash or Card.
  6. Click the button with the amount. Then print the return receipt for the customer.

For cash, you give the money back from your till. For card, you refund through your own card terminal. EasyConsign only records it.

Return period

Under Settings > Shop, you set whether you accept returns and how many days a customer has. If the period has passed, you see a warning. You can still refund if you want to. It's your call.

What happens with the consignor

The consignor's share comes off their balance.

  • Haven't paid the consignor yet? Then their balance simply goes down.
  • Already paid the consignor? Then the consignor owes you that share. When you get the money back, register it on the consignor's page with Register repayment.

Your accounting

A refund comes off your sales on the day of the refund. If a customer brings something back in a later quarter, the sales of that later quarter go down. So a quarter you've already filed taxes for stays correct.

Checked out by mistake?

You can still delete a sale from today completely under Sales receipts, as if it never happened. From tomorrow on, that's no longer possible and you do a refund instead.

The language has changed

You now see the site in English. The country stayed the same: United Kingdom. Prices and the VAT explanations depend on it. Is your shop in another country? Choose it below.
